Where We’re Going
The organization that we have the opportunity to serve with is Pioneer Bible Translators (PBT). The purpose of PBT is to disciple the nations by:
- Providing Scripture in the language of the people
- Developing mother-tongue literacy programs
- Establishing and strengthening congregations
- Training leadership among nationals for partnership in reaching our goals
To accomplish this purpose, PBT serves as a missionary ministry of Christ’s Church and has as its primary task the translation of the Word of God for the worlds peoples who do not yet have access to it in their own language.
PBT currently includes seven translation branches throughout the world. The branch that we will be working in is the East Africa Branch (EAB). This branch began its first translation project in 2001, but has been experiencing tremendous growth in the last year. We are excited to join this team in expanding its translation efforts in East Africa.
Why We’re Going
We have a passion for Christ, His Word, and His kingdom. For several years our interest in long-term, cross-cultural ministry has been growing. After learning about PBT and the specific needs they have in the EAB, we realized how our talents and abilities could be utilized on the mission field.
Chris (Computer Technology Engineer)
Much of the translation process requires the use of computers, and when this technology fails, the missionaries are unable to make progress. After working in a corporate IT environment for over eight years, I am looking forward to providing technical support for the EAB.
Emily (Teacher for Missionary Children)
Many of the missionaries have children. These children must have teachers in order for the family to stay actively working on the field. Growing up I was home-schooled and went on to receive my degree in elementary education. I love children, and can’t wait to oversee the education of the missionary children.
